In the second quarter of 2025, 90,600 new business entities appeared in the REGON register.

This represents an increase compared to the previous quarter (by 3.9%) and compared to the same period last year (by 3.3%).

In the second quarter of 2025, 36,300 companies were closed. This is the lowest figure since the beginning of 2024.

In connection with the above, we note a decrease both in comparison with the previous quarter (by 11.5%) and the same period a year earlier (by 8.6%).

When it comes to the legal forms of business entities, our country is dominated by businesses run by natural persons. Their number has remained relatively stable for several months, at around 2.7 million.

Limited liability companies rank second in terms of numbers. At the end of the second quarter of 2025, there were 610,100 of them. Their number is steadily increasing—since the beginning of July last year, there has been an increase of almost 38,000.

Civil law partnerships operating on the basis of an agreement concluded in accordance with the Civil Code ranked third in this classification. In the second quarter of 2025, there were 279,100 entities of this type registered, which represents a slight increase compared to the previous three months.

The sector of the economy with the highest number of registered companies is broadly defined services, i.e., entities from sections K, L, M, and N of the Polish Classification of Activities. These include, among others, companies involved in financial and insurance activities, real estate services, advertising and PR, as well as tourism and the rental of various types of machinery.

In the second quarter of 2025, there were 799,100 companies registered in the above-mentioned sections. Their number has increased slightly over the past several months—by almost 14,000 since the beginning of July last year.

There was also a slight increase in the second largest PKD section, i.e. G. It includes companies involved in the trade and repair of motor vehicles. Between April and June 2025, their number increased from 731,700 to 734,000.

There was also a slight increase in section F, i.e., construction. In the second quarter of 2025, approximately 3,000 companies were added to this industry.

The increase in the number of new companies occurred—once again—among those involved in IT, telecommunications, and broadly understood information distribution, i.e., in section J of the Polish Classification of Activities (PKD). At the beginning of July last year, there were 258,300 such companies, and by the end of the second quarter of 2025, this number had risen to 265,800.

A positive balance can also be seen among companies registered in sections P, Q, R, and S of the Polish Classification of Activities (PKD). These include companies involved in:

  • education (primary, secondary, post-secondary, and higher education),
  • health care and social assistance (hospitals, medical practices),
  • culture, entertainment, and recreation (theaters, museums, libraries),
  • repair (of electronic equipment, footwear, jewelry, watches).

At the beginning of July last year, the number of companies in these sections was 574,200, and by the end of June 2025, it had increased to 592,800 (up 3.2%).

More information on the condition of individual industries can be found by looking at the specific PKD subclasses that have seen the largest increases in the number of companies.

In this case, the leader is the PKD subclass marked as 78.10.Z, which includes entities involved in activities related to job search and recruitment.

At the end of June 2024, there were 7,800 such companies operating in Poland. A year later, there were already 8,400, which represents an increase of 7.7%.

Growth can also be seen in subclass 82.11.Z. This subclass includes companies that provide administrative office services. At the end of June 2024, there were 4,600 such companies, and on the last day of June 2025, their number was 5,100. This represents an increase of 10.9% over twelve months.

The largest decline in the number of companies concerns subclass 55.20.Z, which includes owners of tourist accommodation facilities and short-term accommodation.

At the end of June 2024, their number stood at 29,100. A year later, it had fallen to 25,100, representing a decline of 13.7%.

The number of registered businesses in each province corresponds to their economic potential.

The largest number of companies operate in the Mazowieckie Province (as of Q2 2025 – 748,100). The Śląskie Province ranks second (374,800), followed by the Wielkopolskie Province (354,400).

In all of the provinces mentioned, we observed slight increases in the number of active economic entities.

And what is the economic situation like in smaller regions?

If we exclude cities with county rights from the analysis, it turns out that the largest increase in the number of new companies over the last year occurred in the Piaseczno County. It was followed by the Legionowo and Wieliczka Counties.

The largest number of companies disappeared in the Puck County. The Gryfice County came second, and the Kamień County third.

The city with county rights that has seen the largest increase in the number of new companies in recent months is Krakow.

At the end of June 2024, there were 122,400 companies registered in this city. A year later, at the end of the second quarter of 2025, there were already 124,300.

Gdańsk came second, and Rzeszów third.

As for cities with county rights, where the number of registered businesses has decreased the most, Suwałki ranks first.

At the end of the second quarter of 2024, there were 5,500 companies registered in this city, and a year later there were 5,400.

Przemyśl came second (down from 4,700 to 4,600), and Świnoujście came third (down from 4,400 to 4,300).
