What is CEIDG?
The Central Register and Information on Economic Activity (CEIDG) is a public electronic register of entrepreneurs who are natural persons conducting business activity in Poland. The register is maintained by the minister responsible for economic affairs, currently the Ministry of Development and Economy.
It includes, in particular:
- Sole proprietorships,
- Partners in civil law partnerships.
The rules governing the functioning of CEIDG are set out in the Act of March 6, 2018, on CEIDG and the Information Point for Entrepreneurs. The CEIDG ICT system can be used, among other things, to submit an application to establish a company, close it down, suspend it, resume it, or expand its scope of business activity.
The register allows most formalities to be completed free of charge via the biznes.gov.pl platform using a trusted profile or e-ID.
At the same time, anyone can view basic information about other entrepreneurs contained in the register.
What data does CEIDG contain?
In accordance with the aforementioned Act (specifically, Article 5), CEIDG collects a range of information about entrepreneurs. However, it is worth noting that not all of this information is publicly available.
Particularly sensitive data, such as personal identification numbers or parents' names, is only visible to authorized institutions. Information about specific businesses can be searched for using identifiers such as company name, place of business, or tax identification number.
Using the form, you can specify whether you want to search for data only in the Central Register and Information on Economic Activity, or also in the National Court Register.
Public information available in CEIDG
- Company (name) of the entrepreneur,
- Name and surname of the entrepreneur,
- Tax Identification Number (if assigned),
- REGON number (if assigned),
- Activity status — active, suspended, terminated, and corresponding dates,
- Date of commencement of business activities,
- Address of the main place of business,
- Address for service (if registered as a business address),
- PKD codes — types of activities performed,
- Form of business activity,
- Information about representatives — to the extent necessary to perform activities on behalf of the entrepreneur,
- Information on bankruptcy or restructuring proceedings, if applicable.
Uses of data from CEIDG
Data obtained from CEIDG has a wide range of applications, both in day-to-day customer service and in risk assessment and compliance processes.
They are most commonly used for:
- Verification of contractors — including checking whether the company actually exists, what its business status is (active, suspended, terminated), and how long it has been operating.
- Business risk assessments — whether the entrepreneur has been declared bankrupt, how long they have been on the market, and in which industries they operate (PKD).
- Supplementing and updating databases in CRM/ERP systems — by obtaining and updating tax identification numbers (NIP), statistical identification numbers (REGON), e-mail and mailing addresses, forms of business activity,
- Automation of processes in the company — e.g., thanks to the automatic creation of contractor cards based on data from the register,
- Compliance with AML and KYC requirements — including confirmation of the identity of entrepreneurs and the compliance of data with registration documents,
- Market and statistical analyses —such as tracking the number of new businesses started, suspended, and closed in specific industries or regions.
Who uses CEIDG data most often?
A number of different entities use the data available in CEIDG. The most common ones are:
- Other entrepreneurs — to check the status of a potential future contractor and the specific sector in which they operate based on the PKD code.
- Financial/insurance companies — for customer verification,
- Compliance, AML/KYC, and debt collection departments — to verify the identity of entrepreneurs,
- Accounting offices and law firms — when establishing, servicing, and making changes to clients' business activities,
- E-commerce platforms, classifieds websites — for verifying sellers and exhibitors,
- Analytical and research companies — to create summaries, market analyses, and statistics on sole proprietorships.
Access to CEIDG data: manually or via API?
Traditional access to CEIDG data—using a web browser—works well for individual queries. However, if a company processes dozens or hundreds of entities per day, manual searching becomes inefficient and time-consuming.
Furthermore, relying solely on the Central Register and Information on Economic Activity provides only a partial picture of the market due to the limited scope of information available in the register.
It is therefore worth combining this information with other data sources, including:
- National Court Register (KRS) — contains information about entities other than sole proprietorships and civil law partnerships, such as partnerships, limited liability companies (z o.o.) and joint-stock companies (S.A.):
- Entity Search Engine — which can be used to obtain basic information about the company, its business activity (PKD), governing bodies and representation, as well as partners and ownership structure. In addition, the published copies contain data on the history of changes in the company.
- Financial Document Repository — to obtain financial data on an entity by analyzing its financial statements submitted in recent years (e.g., profit and loss statements, revenues, debts, scale of operations),
- List of VAT taxpayers / VAT White List — which allows you to check the VAT status of your business partner, which is a legal requirement for transactions exceeding PLN 15,000.
You can connect all these sources, including CEIDG, using a single API interface from MGBI.
CEIDG API from MGBI — what can you gain?
Our solution enables:
- Automatic data retrieval without the need to log in to government websites,
- Quick search of the register by registration numbers (KRS, NIP, REGON),
- Integration of CEIDG data with your own systems (e.g., CRM, ERP),
- Ongoing monitoring of changes in the register and updating of contractor data,
- One API with access to multiple data sources.
The data comes from official sources and is accessed in a fully legal manner and in accordance with applicable regulations. This allows verification processes to be automated, reducing the risk of errors and saving employees time.
